PROGRESS
Judge H.T. Wright had several reasons for appointing John to serve on the Commissioner’s Court. First, he appreciated what John’s youthful and professional perspective would bring to the group. He respected the many leadership experiences and the charitable work John is involved with. Judge Wright also knew that John’s construction and real estate background would be a great asset to the growing county. Finally, he saw that John brings a regional view to the court by his affiliations to multiple organizations that work with all of central Texas.
In his short tenure as County Commissioner, John has accomplished several things and is in the process of implementing many more ideas while still fulfilling the day to day role.
- Reorganized and brought back on-line the county website with current information.
- Holds the county’s board position on CAMPO which decides federal and state transportation funding for Williamson, Travis, Bastrop, Hays and Caldwell counties.
- Developing a long term plan with TxDOT and CAPCOG for existing and future Caldwell County roads.
- Secured $250, 000 in federal and state grants to develop Caldwell County’s first road and transportation plan.
- Working with TxDOT on the impact of SH130 on connecting county roads.
- Helped evaluate multiple maintenance and construction proposals for several of the county’s buildings.
- Working with the county’s four Justice of the Peace offices to replace existing software with more efficient and effective program. This greatly affects how the county collects on missed revenues and fines.
- Set up an outside consultant to evaluate the current Judicial Building, Tax Office, Adult and Juvenile Probation Offices. This recommendation will be used to further evaluate the efficiency of our buildings and steps we should take on the upcoming budgets.
- Has met with multiple new business and potential developers that are looking at Caldwell County.
- Working with the county’s attorney to evaluate the county’s subdivision rules and regulations and how those may need to be tailored to a rapidly growing Caldwell County.
- Brought awareness to the public of two historic trees in the path of SH130. One tree was saved and TxDOT agreed that all money left over from the SH130 project’s change orders fund will be dedicated and used in Caldwell County.
